Biography

Henri Demarquette

Henri Demarquette, born in 1970, entered the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris at the age of 13, where he studied under Philippe Muller and Maurice Gendron. Holding a First Prize with unanimous distinction, he also worked with Pierre Fournier and Paul Tortelier, and later with Janos Starker in Bloomington, USA.

Henri Demarquette is the founder of Vocello, an original ensemble for cello and a capella choir featuring the Sequenza 9.3 Vocal Ensemble. This program brings together works from the Renaissance alongside contemporary music. Since 2012, numerous new compositions have been created for this ensemble. In 2016, Vocello was in residence at the Collège des Bernardins.

Since 2012, he has been invited several times by Michel Onfray to participate in the context of the Université Populaire de Caen. Alongside Jean-Yves Clément, essayist, poet, and musician, he discusses various aspects of music in the form of lectures and conferences. This open-mindedness is reflected in an eclectic discography, acclaimed with numerous awards both in France and abroad. Henri Demarquette has been awarded the Simone and Cino del Duca Foundation Prize by the Academy of Fine Arts. He currently teaches at the École Normale de musique Cortot in Paris.

He plays a 1700 Goffredo Cappa cello.

Michel Dalberto

Born in 1955, Michel Dalberto first laid his hands on a piano at the age of 3 and a half, making his first public appearance just two years later. He entered the Paris Conservatoire, studying under Vlado Perlemuter, a disciple of Maurice Ravel and Alfred Cortot. As a result, he is considered today as the direct heir to the French Piano School founded by Alfred Cortot. His career took off when he won two of the most prestigious piano competitions: the Clara Haskil Prize in 1975 and the 1st Prize at the Leeds International Piano Competition in 1978.

His extensive repertoire is reflected in an impressive discography of over 45 CDs for labels such as Erato, Warner, Denon, RCA, La Dolce Volta, and Aparté. He remains the only pianist in the world to have recorded the complete piano works of Schubert.

Five Beethoven sonatas were recently released by La Dolce Volta, earning him the title of Artist of the Year 2019 by Classica magazine. In May 2022, the same label released a Liszt program, including his famous B minor Sonata, which was praised by Le Monde newspaper in a full-page interview. Considered an exceptional chamber music partner, Michel Dalberto has shared the stage with numerous artists, including Barbara Hendricks, Jessye Norman, Renaud Capuçon, Lynn Harrell, and Michel Portal.

Starting in 2023, he teaches at the brand new Yehudi Menuhin School, which opened in September 2022 in Qingdao, China. Among his various interests, gastronomy holds a special place (he has been a member of the Club des 100 since 2002). He is also an excellent skier, a certified diver, and an enthusiast of vintage cars and Formula 1.
