Biography

Praised for his brilliance and maturity (The Guardian), Russian-Lithuanian pianist Lukas Geniusas has firmly established himself as one of the most captivating artists of his generation.

Lukas is invited to give recitals in the most prestigious venues around the world, including Wigmore Hall, Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Auditorium de Lyon, Salle Gaveau, Auditorium du Louvre, Frick Collection in New York, Phillips Collection, Teatro Carlo Felice, Sala Verdi in Milan, and Grand Hall of the Moscow Conservatory. He is a regular guest at the La Roque d'Anthéron, Piano aux Jacobins, Rheingau, Ruhr Piano Festival, Schloss-Elmau, Lockenhaus, and Gilmore Keyboard Festival.

Lukas is invited to perform with leading international orchestras, including the Philadelphia Orchestra, Toronto Symphony Orchestra, NHK Symphony Orchestra, Orchestre de Paris, the Radio France Philharmonic Orchestra, the Royal Northern Sinfonietta, the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, the Russian National Orchestra, and others, under the baton of conductors such as Esa-Pekka Salonen, Tugan Sokhiev, Mikhail Pletnev, Leonard Slatkin, and Rafael Payare, among others.

Recent highlights include concerts with the Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse conducted by Dima Slobodeniouk, the Scottish Chamber Orchestra with Maxim Emelyanchev, and a tour with the Flanders Symphony Orchestra conducted by Kristiina Poska. A passionate chamber musician, he regularly records and performs with violinist Aylen Pritchin, his wife, pianist Anna Geniushene, and notably with soprano Asmik Grigorian, in some of Europe's most prestigious venues, including the Salzburg and Aix-en-Provence festivals, the Zurich, Geneva, and Frankfurt, Hamburg's Elbphilharmonie, Milan's La Scala, and Vienna's Konzerthaus.

Lukas is currently engaged in a series of concerts giving the first public performances of the original, complete version of Rachmaninov's First Piano Sonata, which he recorded at the composer's Swiss residence. This recently released and critically acclaimed CD has received five-star reviews in BBC Music and Gramophone Magazine, and has been awarded Diapason's «CD of the Month» as well as Classica magazine's «CHOC DE 2024» selection among the best recordings of the year.

This disc adds to a rich and critically acclaimed discography, which has earned Lukas such distinctions as the Diapason «CD of the Year» (Prokofiev Sonatas), as well as the Gramophone Award for CD of the Year in the vocal music category (Dissonance with Asmik Grigorian), among many other honors.

His future projects include performances at the Barbican in London, a return to the Tiroler Festspiele Erl for solo and recital concerts, and recitals at the Salle Cortot and the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg. In 2024/2025, Lukas will feature in the opening series of the Bechstein Hall in London, return to the Chopin and His Europe festival in Warsaw, give a series of concerts in the United States, including his debut at Carnegie Hall, and return to Japan for performances in Hiroshima and Tokyo. He will also be artist-in-residence at the Bartolomeo Cristofori International Piano Festival in Padua.

Born in Moscow in 1990, Lukas Geniusas graduated from the Chopin Music College in Moscow in 2008. He has won several prestigious international competitions, including silver medals at the 2015 Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow and the 2010 International Chopin Competition.
